Performance Analysis of Blowfish and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)

Keywords: advanced encryption standard avalanche effect blowfish brute force attack

This study aimed to develop a simulation program for Blowfish and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithms. Researchers compared these two symmetric algorithms; the experimental results describe which algorithm has a better performance. Experimental and Developmental research were used in the study with the evaluation criteria includes runtime process, security analysis in terms of avalanche and brute force attack Researchers found out that Advanced Encryption Standard has a 6.24 ms average time while in Blowfish algorithm has an average time 42.66 ms. As to avalanche effect the Blowfish algorithm reached 58%, passing the minimum satisfaction of 51% while in AES reached only 19.8% meaning this is vulnerable to the hacker. As to result of brute force attack, the AES has more secured than based in our computation using the Brute force formula.
